Case Study
Morgantown, Indiana – BIG ProFusion
“BIG has been great to work with and very responsive to our needs.”
Morgantown is a small town in south central Indiana with a population of 986 people. The Morgantown Department of Public Works has a 2-lagoon system that was having serious issues with short circuiting and sludge accumulation in the first cell due to several years of overloading the system with septage hauled in and dumped without any prescreening or pretreatment.
In order to address their sludge accumulation Covalen installed four ProFusion units in combination with the biochemical CBX ProOxidizer in April of 2014.
Covalen installed the ProFusions in a line in the lagoon and created a hydraulic curtain that pushes the water against the natural flow of the lagoons in order to address the short circuiting.
“BIG has been great to work with and very responsive to our needs,” Certified Operator for Morgantown, Indiana.
The combination of ProFusions and CBX resulted in a significant reduction in sludge and over time the levels of ammonia, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and total suspended solids (TSS) have improved. A detailed analysis of the performance of the system over the first four years is shown in the charts and trendlines below.
Mg/L of ammonia measured monthly.
From 2014 to 2018 Morgantown’s lagoons saw a reduction in the number of elevated ammonia measurements approaching the legal limit.
Mg/L of total suspended solids (TSS) measured monthly.
From 2014 to 2018 Morgantown’s lagoons saw a reduction in TSS as shown by the trendline above.
Mg/L of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) measured monthly.
From 2014 to 2018 Morgantown’s lagoons saw a reduction in the number of elevated BOD measurements as shown by the trendline above. After two years of operation Morgantown did not exceed BOD limits in any of the monthly measurements.
